Cavendish at the 2024 Crawford Festival

Just returned from a most interesting and stimulating two days at the third annual Crawford Festival held at the Royal Philatelic Society London. The focus this year was auction catalogues (something dear to our heart!). Topics covered included catalogue production, catalogue collecting, use of catalogues for research purposes, and archiving catalogues especially those now produced online, with thought provoking presentations on all. Amongst other things, Greg Spring (Cavendish) was a panel member for an afternoon question and answer session alongside Ricky Verra (Feldman), Tom Fell and Josh Barber (Spink), Constanze Dennis (Grosvenor) and Jonas Hällström (Global Philatelic Network). The second afternoon culminated in the award of the Crawford Medal, this year won by Luís & Eduardo Barreiros for their book Portuguese India: Postal History and the First Issues – from the "Natives" to 1900, a worthy winner selected from a very strong shortlist. Next year's festival will focus on archives – looking forward to it already!
